When the Access Now team reached out to us, they had three main goals: a more vibrant and dynamic way of updating and displaying their content, integrating their standalone sites into one central location, and improving website performance.
Since their first priority was content-focused, we knew the best way to get started was to understand the layout of the content and how it would work with the new design of the site. Our team collaborated with theirs to create a design that would highlight their key content and stay in line with their branding. This included some unique designs for key pages that bring more attention to their most important information and initiatives.
Before our work, Access Now had a number of orphaned websites relating to previous and current initiatives with great content but no way for searchers to find it. Part of our work during this project focused on migrating content from those sites and integrating them into a central location, allowing them to showcase all of their work and resources in a way that reflected the current goals and branding of Access Now.
We also custom developed a number of functions and features to improve functionality across the site. These include a custom built Region Importer, allowing them to import CSV files to automatically update terms across the site, a map, accordions and other block types, and post type templates. These all allow them to display their work and resources in an easy to understand format, offering their updates and important news, resources, and volunteer opportunities in ways to engage their audience and relay the importance of their mission.
Post-site launch, we’ve continued to work with the Access Now team to refine the site and build new features. As they’re a global organization reaching people from all over, one of the features they were interested in was multilingual functionality, and we knew just what to do. We built a custom multilingual feature that’s intentionally applied based on the language of the device a visitor uses, and will automatically display text in that language.
Through our collaboration with Access Now, we successfully built them a dynamic, content-focused custom nonprofit website that aligns with their mission of defending freedom of expression and internet access. By integrating their standalone sites, enhancing performance, and developing custom features, we provided them with a more efficient and engaging way to share their work with a global audience. We’re proud to have worked with such an outstanding organization and can’t wait to continue to improve their site!
